A documentary capturing the birth of Algerian independence, shot on location in Algiers during the summer of 1962. Though banned both in France and Algeria, it earned the Grand Prize at the 1965 Leipzig International Film Festival. Images de France dispatched cinematographer Bruno Muel, who later recalled that working on the film countered the horror, lies and absurdity of the war and marked the start of his lifelong devotion to cinema.
