Stach, a wayward teen surviving in squalor on the outskirts of Nazi‑occupied Warsaw, is drawn into the underground resistance by a kindly Communist organizer and meets the beautiful Dorota. He soon joins perilous actions against oppression, maturing as he takes responsibility for others’ lives. The film is a stark coming‑of‑age portrait of survival, loss and the human cost of war.
