During the early days of the September 12 coup, five‑year‑old Metin watches from his window as his mother Ayten is arrested and taken to prison. He visits her cell, then his grandfather Hüseyin Efe brings him to Bozcaada. On the island Metin is shunned because his mother is labeled a communist, and his father's photo appears on wanted posters.
