A ten‑year‑old Iranian schoolboy lives with his parents on the northern coast of Iran. He assists his father in selling illegal fish and helps his mother with shopping and hauling water from a well. The family shares a single cramped room and survives on plain bread and milk every day, a testament to the harsh poverty of their coastal village. Their austere existence is shattered when the mother dies.
