A man sits beside the lifeless body of his young wife, reflecting on their brief marriage and the desperation that led her to view suicide as her only escape. Dumala’s visual technique crafts a dark, claustrophobic mood that echoes the bleakness of Dostoyevsky’s novel “A Gentle Spirit,” on which the film is based.
