Jamaa Fanaka’s debut riffs on blaxploitation conventions, reimagining Goethe’s Faust over a re‑edited Super Fly (1972) with a non‑synchronous soundtrack. The out‑of‑focus camera gives nervous energy, and while Super Fly’s Priest coolly snorts cocaine, Willie’s arm bursts with blood as he injects heroin. In two reels it delivers a stark morality tale.
