What Happens at the End of Mob Psycho 100?

How Mob Psycho 100 (2018) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.

The Season 3 premiere of Mob Psycho 100 ends with an after-credits scene that delivers a quietly ominous twist involving Dimple, the spirit who has lingered alongside Mob for much of the series. Throughout the show, Dimple has maintained a convenient excuse for his presence—he claims he is only waiting for a moment of weakness to possess Mob's powerful body. Yet over time, he has become more of a comedic ally than a genuine threat, and viewers might have reasonably assumed his villainous aspirations had faded. The ending suggests otherwise. After watching Mob wrestle with questions about his future career, Dimple begins to contemplate his own ambitions. In the episode's final moments, he drifts to the top of the giant broccoli stalk Mob created at the end of Season 2 and delivers a line that, in English subtitles, reads as "I guess my time has finally arrived."

The original Japanese dialogue carries significantly more weight than the translation suggests. Dimple's chosen words, "Oresama" and "jidai," are layered with implications about power and dominion. "Oresama" is an arrogant first-person pronoun, but the "-sama" suffix is frequently used when addressing gods or rulers. Similarly, "jidai" can refer to historical eras tied to emperors and dynasties. When Dimple declares that his "time has arrived," he is not simply reflecting on opportunity—he is announcing his intention to usher in a new era under his rule. The scene reframes his character entirely, suggesting that his long-simmering evil nature has not been extinguished by friendship but is instead preparing to surface in a major way. What makes this moment so effective is how subtly it recontextualizes Dimple's entire arc. For seasons, he has played the role of the somewhat trustworthy sidekick, but this ending reminds viewers that his goals were never truly abandoned. By positioning himself atop the Broccoli—a remnant of one of Mob's most significant battles—Dimple symbolically claims a position of power within Mob's world. The premiere closes not with a cliffhanger of immediate action, but with a creeping sense of dread: the ally who walked beside Mob may be preparing to stand against him.
