In 1839, after the British crushed the Patriote uprising, hundreds of rebels stay jailed. On February 14, Marie‑Thomas Chevalier de Lorimier and Charles Hindelang learn they will be hanged in 24 hours, with three patriots. While awaiting their fate, they spend hours with companions, settle affairs and dictate wills as they walk to the scaffold at dawn.
