Set in Paris, March 1793, the Knight of Maison‑Rouge plots to free Queen Marie‑Antoinette. He is aided by master tanner Dixmer, his wife Geneviève (the Knight’s sister), and Lieutenant Maurice Lindey, who rescues Geneviève and wins her love despite her marriage. They dig a tunnel from Dixmer’s house to the Temple Tower, but each rescue fails, leaving the queen to the guillotine and drawing Lindey into the plot.
