What Happens at the End of Working Man?

How Working Man (2020) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.

Levon Cade, a former elite soldier turned construction worker, unleashes a brutal rampage against the Russian mafia to rescue Jenny Garcia, the daughter of his boss, after she's kidnapped by traffickers. As Levon destroys the mob’s operations, he kills many henchmen, which ultimately attracts the attention of the greater Mafia organization known as the Brotherhood. They send their assassin, Yuri, and his hitmen to track him down. Despite killing all those involved in the traffickers’ hideout, Levon’s violent spree prompts the Brotherhood to call off their attack, realizing that he's essentially destroyed their operations and that there's little point in continuing the pursuit. They decide to let Levon go because he’s proven to be a dangerous man who’s already done enough damage to their interests; in other words, they opt for mercy rather than vengeance, understanding that there’s no profit in trying to erase a man like Levon from their world.

However, Levon's actions have made him a powerful enemy. During his rampage, he kills several mobsters connected to Yuri, the man seeking revenge for his murdered family, including Yuri’s brother and sons. In the final scenes, Yuri boldly states he still intends to hunt down Levon and take vengeance for his loved ones, revealing that his thirst for revenge is far from over and setting up potential future conflicts. The kidnapping of Jenny was a calculated move by traffickers that targeted her randomly, but her resilience—biting her captor and fighting back—helped her escape before being rescued by Levon.

At the movie’s close, Levon has won but at the cost of making a dangerous enemy in Yuri, whose vow to continue his vendetta leaves the door open for a sequel. Director David Ayer emphasized that Levon’s emotional ties—his family, both biological and chosen—are what drive him, and future stories could explore his ongoing fight to protect those he cares about from the retribution of people like Yuri. The ending implies that Levon might have more battles ahead, especially with Yuri still on the hunt for him and his loved ones, threatening to ignite a new cycle of violence. While the film isn’t layered with deep metaphor, its core message about loyalty and family—whether blood or chosen—remains central. The story leaves behind the possibility of more chapters, with Levon’s unresolved conflicts hinting at a continuing fight against the enemies he’s made.
