About eighty years later, in the early 1990s, Karen, Sarah, and Emma move into the same house to start over, only to confront the lingering horrors tied to the mine and the Carlton curse. The two eras are linked by a blood feud and a need to confront the past to survive the present.

The story unfolds around Carlton, Pennsylvania, anchored by the long-closed Carlton Mine and the nearby Carlton Mansion.
