The film closes with the sisters finally confronting the loss of their mother. Ben and Jen discuss the possibility of taking the girls into their home, a promise that suggests Spider and Jessie will not be torn apart by child‑services. Their willingness to adopt the children gives the audience hope that the bond between the sisters will endure.

In the final scene, after the funeral, Cody visits Spider. He teasingly asks if “Spider” is really her name; she smiles and reveals she is Sadie, but he insists the nickname fits her. Their easy conversation signals that a small, ordinary life may finally be within reach.

The camera lingers on Spider as she retrieves her mother’s locket—once a cherished keepsake—and slips it onto her neck. The screen then fades to black. This act represents her decision to keep the memory of her mother without being held hostage by it, allowing herself—and the audience—to imagine a future where the sisters move forward together, possibly under the care of Ben and Jen, and where Spider can begin to heal.
