Ending explained
How WHAM! 10 Days in China (2026) ends, in short: the final scene, the last twist and what it means for the characters. The full ending explained, with every spoiler, lives on its own page.
After following the 1985 tour chronologically through its performances, press encounters, and competing production agendas, the documentary closes with Careless Whisper. Director Mike Christie chose the song from the beginning as the emotional release after footage that often shows a strained, uncomfortable trip. The final sequence then moves to Andrew Ridgeley on the Great Wall in the present. At that moment the film's boxy archival aspect ratio expands to widescreen, visually leaving the recovered rushes and entering the now after spending almost the entire running time inside ten days preserved from the past.
That formal break gives the unfinished history a conclusion that neither of the earlier attempted documentaries achieved. The China trip is no longer presented only as Wham! publicity, Lindsay Anderson's abandoned project, or a collection of awkward fragments; the restoration allows Chinese fans, Ridgeley, and the surviving footage to describe what the visit became over four decades. Careless Whisper provides an uplifting musical finish, while the widening image admits the distance from George Michael and the 1985 moment. The film ends by showing that the material needed time, hindsight, and new witnesses before those ten days could become a coherent shared memory.
