The production of Wagner’s Das Rheingold opens the Ring Cycle with the mist‑filled prologue. As the opening chord fades, the screen reveals the River Rhine, three maidens guarding hidden gold, and a massive dam—an anachronistic hydro‑electric plant that moves the story from medieval fantasy to a commentary on power and greed. Alberich renounces love after stealing the gold, seeking world domination.
