Deepak Tyagi, an elderly former government officer now lost in dementia, is left abandoned in Varanasi by his three sons, who have staged a fake funeral to claim the money they could get by selling his estate. He wanders the ghats, confused by his fragmented past, until a reluctant volunteer named Veer U and his friends Meena and Pappu find him. After a brief stint in hospital they learn, from the doctor’s advice, that the only way to coax his memories back is to keep asking him about his younger days.
Guided by the scattered recollections that surface—him meeting his late wife Bimla in Shimla, the address of his ancestral home, and a handwritten letter—Veer U’s group finally discovers his true name. Their search is interrupted by a sudden landslide; in a dramatic turn, Deepak, though frail, pulls the three rescuers out of the rubble and alerts the disaster‑relief team. The officials recognize him as a respected retired officer, a revelation that starkly contrasts with the callousness of his own children.
With his identity confirmed, Deepak regains enough clarity to remember his mansion in Palampur and how his sons had declared him dead in order to sell the property and solve their debts. He returns home, confronts the family, and, in a bitter exchange, exposes their deception. The older sons offer hollow apologies, but Deepak, feeling that he can no longer trust the flesh that betrayed him, decides to leave them for good.
Choosing his own final rites, Deepak returns to Varanasi—the city where his abandonment began. Veer U, who has come to see the elderly man as a surrogate father, begs to stay with him, offering to care for him as long as he lives. Deepak, overwhelmed by the rare kindness he has found, dies in Veer U’s arms, the two sharing a quiet, heartbreaking moment. Veer U then performs the last rites on the ghats, while the estranged sons are left excluded, their greed unpunished.
The film ends with Deepak’s spirit finding peace, reunited with Bimla in the afterlife, while the audience is left with the stark reminder that family is not always defined by blood, but by the compassion of strangers who choose to stay.
