Vanishing Point

Kowalski, a Gulf War veteran and former stock car racer, works as an automobile restorer and delivery driver in Idaho. He takes a job delivering a 1971 Plymouth Roadrunner to New Mexico to help pay his wife's mounting medical bills.

While in New Mexico, he is offered a second job to deliver a 426 Hemi-powered 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T to Salt Lake City, Utah. The offer pulls him deeper into a coast-to-coast drive.

Learning that his wife's pregnancy has worsened, Kowalski heads back toward Idaho. He refuses to stop for police when flagged for speeding, becoming a target of pursuit.

An interstate chase unfolds as a Utah sheriff and an FBI agent pursue him, convinced he is running drugs or a terrorist threat. The chase becomes a test of Kowalski's resolve and driving skill.

A radio shock jock called 'The Voice' becomes intrigued by Kowalski's cross-country trek. He uses his platform to explore the truth about Kowalski and hints at government oppression.

Kowalski veers into the desert, loses his way, and blows a tire. He ends up spending the night on an Indian reservation before finding a path back to the road.

With help from the desert and the couple he meets, Kowalski continues while luring the FBI away by turning the route in a false direction.

A woman on a motorcycle discovers Kowalski's damaged oil pan and guides him to a hideout with her partner, who is hiding from the IRS. They replace the pan and warn of heavy police presence.

Kowalski outruns a roadblock by mounting flashing lights on his roof, convincing officers it's another police car. A shot shatters the rear window, and he escapes into the woods.

He shuts off his headlights and vanishes into the woods, using night vision goggles to hide from patrols. The police helicopter's infrared sensors fail to spot him as he hides under a large tin cover.

Waking at 7:19 a.m. from a nightmare about his wife, Kowalski finds a phone booth and calls the hospital, speaking to the same doctor as before.

He returns to the roadblock location where the film began and prepares for a final confrontation. A flashback reveals his wife died at 7:19 a.m. from kidney failure, setting the stakes for his reckless stand.

In the epilogue, The Voice reveals that official accounts claim Kowalski died in the crash and his body was never found. Some witnesses claim he bailed out before the crash and escaped with the help of sympathetic onlookers, and a possible future shows him living in the wilderness with his newborn daughter.
