How Union (2024) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.
The ending of The Union reveals that the supposed threats and attacks against the secret agency were orchestrated by Nick Faraday, Roxanne's husband, who had faked his death and gone rogue. Throughout the film, Faraday's frustration with his pay and dissatisfaction with his marriage led him to betray the Union and ally with the enemies he once fought against. He stole a crucial database containing sensitive information about agents and their families and planned to sell it to the highest bidder for millions of dollars. When Roxanne, Mike, and the Union team finally track him down, Faraday's plan to escape with the database seems successful at first, but Roxanne makes the bold decision to shoot her own husband to prevent the data from falling into the wrong hands. Her choice is a moment of redemption for her, symbolizing her commitment to her duty and the security of her country. The film ends with Roxanne and Mike successfully securing the database and handing it over to the CIA, ensuring the threat is neutralized. In the final scenes, Roxanne and Mike are shown happily dating, and the story hints at future missions together when Brennan arrives at a wedding and offers them a new assignment in Marrakesh. This ending emphasizes themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the difficult choices made in the shadowy world of espionage.
