Tramps

Danny, a young Polish-American in New York City, is asked by his recently jailed brother Darren to deliver a briefcase. He is not told what's inside and receives vague instructions about the delivery. The assignment sets the entire story in motion.

At a subway stop, Danny leaves the briefcase with the wrong person and mistakes someone else's bag for his own. Realizing the error, he exits the train at the next stop and retraces his steps. When he returns to the platform, the bag has vanished, raising the stakes immediately.

Back at the platform, Danny encounters Ellie, who is hired to be his getaway driver. They realize that without a proper drop, neither of them will get paid, so they decide to work together to recover the briefcase. The uneasy alliance becomes the central partnership of the plot.

Ellie contacts her associates and demands equal pay for both of them, organizing a delivery for that night. She negotiates terms while keeping Danny in the loop, signaling a professional, if tense, collaboration. Their plan shifts toward a coordinated retrieval operation.

Danny and Ellie travel by train to an address in the suburbs that they found on a prescription bottle. Along the way, they start to learn more about each other and the jobs they do, building a fragile trust. The journey sets them closer as they head into unfamiliar territory.

In the suburbs, someone lets them into a house and they search for the woman from the platform. They glimpse the SUV of a man who had threatened to call the police earlier, panicking and jumping out through a window. The escape marks a turning point as they realize the danger is real.

After wandering the town, they attend a carnival and talk about their uncertain futures. They end up spending the night in a pool shed, cuddling for warmth as the night grows cold. The moment blurs the line between strangers and partners in their precarious plans.

In the morning, the family has left the house, allowing them to sneak back in without confrontation. Danny finds a photo of the girl from the platform named Vinessa, along with her email and work address on a computer. They grab some food and clothes before quietly leaving on bicycles.

Back in the city, Danny and Ellie see Vinessa go to her work and trigger a plan. Danny calls Darren, who arrives with associates and pressures Vinessa to leave her workplace with the briefcase. The tension builds as the hijack attempt edges closer.

Danny intercepts Vinessa and switches the briefs cases back to the correct owner. He phones Darren again, who tries to persuade him to grab the briefcase and run. Instead, Danny hands the case to Ellie, who is picked up and driven to a luxurious home.

The owner of the luxurious home is pleased to receive the briefcase, which contains a piece of art she had hidden from her ex-husband. Ellie receives $3,000 for the handover and shares a cut with Danny. The exchange resolves the immediate danger and shifts the power dynamics.

Ellie heads to Port Authority to catch a bus to Pittsburgh, seeking a fresh start elsewhere. After a moment of reflection, Danny decides to chase after her, catching up at the terminal. Ellie reveals she plans to go to Providence, prompting Danny to ask to come along.

Danny and Ellie reveal their willingness to continue the uneasy partnership as a pair, with Danny asking to join Ellie on her journey to Providence. The film closes on an uncertain note about their future together, but they move forward as partners.
