The USS Alabama accidentally enters a mysterious portal and disappears in 1990. The crew is never heard from again, and the event sparks rumors of alternate timelines and unusual energies at sea. The navy struggles to explain what happened.

Several years after the disappearance, Captain Alan Deakins reappears claiming he traveled to the future. The Navy refuses to believe his story and confines him to a mental institution. His return raises questions about whether time travel really occurred.

Lance McCarty's paranormal research organization funds an expedition to recreate the incident and test Deakins's tale. The team includes military personnel and scientists who doubt the official accounts. Their goal is to uncover the truth behind the Bermuda Portal.

Government official Charles Braddock approves Deakins' breakout to join the expedition. The plan lets Deakins physically rejoin the mission he supposedly survived. The move blurs lines between military protocol and experimental time research.

Before leaving, Deakins visits his wife Jeannie, who is heartbroken yet overjoyed to see him alive. She pleads with him not to go, fearing for their family. The farewell scene underscores what is at stake for their future.

The submarine departs the next morning and successfully enters the portal. Inside, the vessel is attacked and boarded by a rival force. Deakins and the crew are captured by their pursuers.

In lockup, Spitz tells Deakins that they are in the post-apocalyptic year 2077 under a dictatorship led by Braddock. Deakins learns his son John is the rebellion's leader. The revelation reframes the mission as a fight for survival and freedom.

A guard kills Schmidt for talking back and sexually assaults Marjorie; Deakins kills the guard in response. The brutality of the regime becomes clear. The capture marks a turning point for the captives.

Spitz helps Deakins, Marjorie, and Hawks escape from prison. They travel to the rebels' base and meet Deakins's son John, who now commands the resistance. The reunion deepens the stakes of their mission.

John explains Braddock is building an army of cyborgs who can mimic humans and orders them to recover a key computer chip. He recruits Deakins and the others to join the assault on Braddock's base. The mission shifts from escape to a targeted operation for future rebellion.

Braddock orders the elder Deakins killed to alter the timeline so that John would never be born. The motive is to dismantle the rebellion at its source. The plan tightens the noose around the captives.

They infiltrate Braddock's base, recover the chip, and rescue Lance. John and Cole are believed dead, but John reappears later to aid in the escape. They board a submarine to return to the past.

The crew fights their way back to their own time, returning to 1997. Spitz suspects John is a cyborg clone and reveals the truth; Alan destroys John to prevent further manipulation. The timeline risks are laid bare as reality fractures.

In the climax, Braddock is revealed to be a cyborg clone; Lance shoots him, but the real Braddock appears and is killed in the struggle. Hawks betrays Deakins by invading his home, where Jeannie is killed in the confrontation. The immediate threat to the rebellion is removed, but costs are high.

In the aftermath, Spitz is murdered after confirming Jeannie's death, and the officials' cover story tightens. The surviving Braddock clone remains a looming threat to any hopes of lasting peace. Spitz realizes that Marjorie will eventually give birth to John, ensuring the rebellion endures in some form.
