The conclusion of The Tutor delivers a shocking reversal that recontextualizes the entire film, revealing that the supposed victim, Ethan, is actually the true villain of the story. Throughout the movie, Ethan appears to be a dedicated educator being tormented by Jackson, a wealthy and obsessive student. However, the final act discloses that Jackson’s erratic behavior was a calculated ruse designed to entrap Ethan. It turns out that Ethan had an affair with Jackson’s mother, Rachel, years prior.
