The Slip (2024) Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Mae finally breaks through the endless loop of hopping from one reality to another when she can no longer ignore the emptiness that has been following her. After a night of drinking, drugs and binge‑eating, she collapses on a park bench and, in a raw, tear‑filled confession, voices every fear and resentment she has been carrying about herself and her marriage. Her best friend Gina, who has remained a constant presence no matter which version of the world Mae lands in, appears and gently escorts her home.

The next morning, Mae wanders out again and, as if guided by fate, runs into an alternate version of her husband Elijah. She tells him everything—how each orgasm has thrown her into a new universe where the last person she slept with becomes her partner. Elijah listens without judgment, and the honesty finally bridges the distance that had built up between them.
