The Scam

After losing everything, Hyun-soo, Park Yong-ha spends five years glued to the computer screen as an unshaven, full-time “ant” (individual investor). He climbs to the top of the game through a grueling diet of instant noodles and the financial sacrifice of three luxury sedans, vowing to quit for good once he reaches a nine-digit savings goal that will secure his mother and studious younger brother. He finally hits the jackpot, unaware that upsetting a stock market scam comes with dangerous consequences.

He stirs the wrath of Hwang Jong-ku, Park Hee-soon, a gangster-turned-financier who dreams of breaking into the top echelon of the rich and powerful. Hwang presents a polished, new mobster persona, complete with flashy Italian shoes, but his violence surfaces whenever it’s needed. He also begins every sentence with an “OK,” a signature quirk that masks a volatile temper. > OK

Hwang doesn’t linger on past misdeeds. He recognizes Hyun-soo’s talent and recruits him for the biggest scam yet, giving him a slick makeover along the way. Hyun-soo joins a elite dream team for the large-scale heist—the 60 billion won plan—sharing the spotlight with a sharp trio of collaborators and a lone outsider who proves to be the wild card in the game.

Jo Min-hyung, Kim Moo-yul, is an elite stock broker who doubles as the think tank behind fraudulent trades (musical star Kim Mu-yeol makes his big-screen debut); Yoo Seo-yeon, Kim Min-jung, a sexy private banker; Park Chang-joo, Jo Deok-hyeon, a second-generation chaebol CEO facing a management crisis; and Bryan Choi, Jun Kim, a Korean-American fund manager who pretends to attract foreign investment as a “black-haired foreigner.” These professionals read the room like seasoned gamblers, leaning on new scientific technologies to propel their scams and drawing money from a growing wave of blind “ants.” Park’s chaebol company pours funds into a friend’s environmental research, and Seo-yeon arranges for a client to buy shares in that project. A media hype by a famous broadcaster fuels public excitement, while Bryan creates the illusion of international investment, letting the cash flood in from the eager, unsuspecting crowd.

Yet the scheme soon spirals inward. Within the circle of con artists, Hyun-soo, once an outsider, climbs to become the pivotal insider, entangled in a web of backstabbing and shifting loyalties that threaten to topple everyone involved. The line between master and pawn grows blurred as the scam expands, leaving Hyun-soo to navigate a dangerous maze where trust is scarce and risk is everywhere.
