Nick Van Alstyne, the owner of the Henrietta silver mine, is extremely wealthy, while his son Bertie is naive and pampered. His daughter Rose is wed to the shady investor Mark, who sabotages Bertie's wedding by forcing him to take the blame for Mark’s secret daughter and nearly destroys the family’s fortune by offloading stock at a grossly low price.
