Mabel is courted by two men: a slick con artist she mocks by twirling a fake moustache, and the clumsy but earnest Ford Sterling, whom she truly loves. Ford wants to buy an oil well the con man is selling. The swindler has a local pour fake oil over the land, duping Ford into buying it and planning a wedding. The ruse is revealed and the oil is nonexistent.
