The Park (2003) – Full Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Read the complete plot breakdown of The Park (2003), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

Fourteen years after a girl fell from the Ferris wheel and the park’s owner hanged himself in guilt, the once-bustling amusement park sits abandoned, its legends of lying atop a former cemetery fueling whispered fears. Alan, Edwin Siu, a determined reporter, enters the site to document the strange happenings and vanishes without a trace. Yen, Bobo Chan Man-Yuen, his sister, is convinced that Alan is alive somewhere inside the silent grounds, and she defies her mother, Master Yu, Kara Wai Ying-Hung, a seasoned ghostbuster who uses a magic camera, to lead a crew into the park at night.

Her companions include six friends: Ka-ho, Jonathan Cheung Wing-Hong; Dan, Derek Tsang Kwok-Cheung; YY, Tiffany Lee Lung-Yee; Ken, Pubate Maganit; Pinky, Chermarn Boonyasak; and Shan, Matthew Paul Dean. They slip into the park despite a strange old caretaker’s warning that the place is haunted, and the group splits up to search for Alan, chasing rumors in the darkness.

Ka-ho, armed with a camera, notices something eerie on his feed and pursues it into the Haunted House. An hour later, the team reconvenes to discover Ka-ho is missing, and they split again to look for him. The carousel begins to spin on its own, sending Ken tumbling as Pinky is knocked unconscious in the chaos. Shan stays behind with Pinky, while Ken staggers away and barely survives a near-drowning. His crucifix helps him stay alive, but it cannot save him from a later, fatal fate on the park’s perilous wires. Pinky becomes possessed and dies after slitting her wrists, and Shan is at one point believed killed after a struggle with the possessed Pinky—but his lucky charm apparently keeps him alive.

Yen, YY, and Dan press deeper into the terrors of the park, entering the Haunted House where wax figures come to life and swarm them. YY is killed by the figures, and Dan perishes in a blaze set by the supernatural forces at work. By night’s end, only Yen remains, weeping over YY’s body as the possessed caretaker closes in with an axe. Just in time, Yen’s mother arrives and confronts the demon controlling the park, sacrificing herself by allowing the demon to possess her so Yen can use the magic camera to capture the malevolent presence. Before dying, she asks Yen to photograph the spirits of her deceased brother, friends, and other victims and to burn the photos to lay them to rest. In a final twist, Shan reappears and reveals that he was saved by his lucky charm.

In the epilogue, Yen steps into her mother’s role as the park’s ghostbuster, while Shan works as a car mechanic. A grim note lingers as Yen attempts to reach Shan by phone, only to learn that he has been crushed by a car. The final image hints that the demon has endured, hiding within the group photo that persists among them.
