The Marksman

Rosa and her son Miguel are forced to escape Mexico after someone warns them that the cartel is after Rosa due to her brother Carlos stealing money. They begin their journey to avoid being caught by Mauricio Guerrero’s cartel. During their escape, Rosa is shot while trying to cross the border, and Jim Hanson intervenes.

Jim Hanson, a retired marine, spots Rosa and Miguel trying to cross the border illegally. When cartel members appear, Jim tries to hide them and ends up confronting Mauricio Guerrero’s men. He fires back when they open fire, killing Mauricio's brother and aiding Rosa and Miguel’s escape.

After being shot, Rosa collapses and dies from her wounds. Before dying, she hands Jim a bag of stolen money and an address, asking him to help Miguel reach his family in Chicago. Jim promises to take care of Miguel as medics arrive to assist Rosa.

Jim learns that Miguel is about to be deported back to Mexico and devises a plan to smuggle him out of the detention station. He tricks a police officer to see Miguel and secretly exits with the boy while Mauricio's men wait outside.

Mauricio and his men locate Jim’s residence, steal personal items, and burn down his house. They also steal Jim’s credit card information to track him and his attempts to escape to Chicago. Jim is forced to leave behind his home and belongings.

Jim stops at a gas station to buy supplies and an atlas as he begins his journey toward Chicago. Mauricio’s men attack the gas station, kill a clerk, and continue their pursuit. Jim’s truck breaks down, and he gets it repaired while staying overnight.

Jim is stopped by a police trooper who claims to want to help find Miguel but is revealed to be working for the cartel. After Jim notices the trooper's suspicious behavior, he and Jackson overpower him, escape, and kill him to remain safe.

Jim takes Miguel to a motel for safety, but Mauricio’s men kill the motel clerk and go looking for them. Jim manages to hide Miguel until police arrive, but Mauricio’s men shoot and kill Jim’s dog Jackson. Jim mourns his loss and prepares for the final confrontation.

Nearing Chicago, Jim and Miguel are chased by Mauricio and his gang. Jim snipes the driver of their van, causing it to crash, and then engages in a shooting fight, ultimately killing Mauricio after a brutal struggle. Miguel creates a diversion that allows Jim to eliminate the remaining cartel members.

After the fight, Jim takes Miguel to meet his family in Chicago, ensuring he’s safe. Jim then quietly leaves, boarding a bus and sitting quietly, wounded and exhausted, contemplating his journey and losses. He ends his story by closing his eyes, symbolizing his departure from the chaos.
