Dr. Muller, a seemingly friendly man, takes pleasure in corrupting the inherent goodness of others. While viewing a new painting titled “The Martyr—Truth Crucified by Evil,” he encounters Marie Matin and her fiancé Georges Roben. Marie insists the work is wrong—evil can never overcome truth—Muller pretends to agree but secretly plots to prove the opposite.
