Ending Explained
Andrea, a university student in present‑day Madrid, lives a seemingly normal life until her boyfriend is murdered in a shocking act of violence. She soon begins to notice a mysterious entity that follows her wherever she goes. Twenty years earlier, Marie, a woman in Buenos Aires, suffered the same fate. Camila, a documentary filmmaker, becomes involved, seeking to uncover the truth behind the haunting presence.

How The Wailing (2025) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.
The film closes on a quiet, almost mundane office bathroom in Brussels, where Lisbeth is having a breakdown. The same looming multistoried building that haunts the other women flickers in the background of her office window, reminding us that the same unseen force is still lurking. A call arrives from Andrea’s adoptive mother, telling Lisbeth that Sara—Andrea’s friend—will be coming to meet her. When the three women finally gather, they embrace and begin to wail together, their cries echoing the collective anguish that has haunted the previous chapters.
This final tableau does not provide a tidy defeat of the bald, faceless entity that has claimed the lives of Camila, Marie and Andrea. Instead, it leaves the menace open‑ended, implying that the curse persists but that the victims are no longer isolated. Unlike the earlier women, who were dismissed as mad or were completely alone, Lisbeth now stands with people who actually believe her story and are willing to confront the horror alongside her. The shared mourning suggests that solidarity may be the only weapon the film offers against an evil that is never fully explained.
In short, the ending is deliberately ambiguous: the old man remains an invisible predator, but the emergence of a supportive community hints at a possible break in the cycle of violence. The lingering wail is both a lament for the women who have already been lost and a tentative promise that collective acknowledgment might finally give future victims a chance to survive.
