The film recounts the 1917 Kiel sailors’ revolt against the German navy, spurred by the Russian October Revolution. Machinist Henne Lonke and stoker Jens Kasten seize weapons, preventing an attack on a Russian freighter. When Admiralty orders the suicidal Operation “Nibelungen,” a strike on England to crush the uprising, the crew unite in protest.
