Exiled chief of police Don Salluste plots revenge against the Queen. He discovers Ruy Blas, a student who is the spitting‑image of his nephew Don Cesar, and convinces him to impersonate Cesar. Ruy quickly wins favor for his intelligence and virtue; the Queen falls in love with him and makes him Prime Minister. Yet Salluste’s vengeance remains unresolved.
