Costi and his companion realize with mounting alarm that the supposed “enemy” are not insurgents but fellow Army troops. They desperately try to explain the truth to an officer on the scene, only to be dismissed as terrorists and even labeled “Arabs.” The tension intensifies as Costi is found to be partly in uniform, a fact that complicates his standing and leads to a brief, rough confinement in a cellar. A Colonel arrives to verify his identity, and after a tense check, Costi is permitted to leave, his fate momentarily spared.

Parallel to this, Lt. Neagu drives across the city, a devoted mentor who treats Costi and his men like family. In a poignant detour, he makes a stop at Costi’s mother’s home, where the two share cigarettes and watch the television, a quiet moment of humanity amid the chaos, and where fear for Costi’s safety lingers over the scene.

As the night ebbs and flows, the group returns to their base, their shared pulse still racing from the extraordinary sequence of events. The film closes on the same stark standoff seen at the opening: the APC sits at the checkpoint, regular army troops demanding identification.
