Clad in a leather jacket, the enigmatic “Black Monk” asks whether a tiny band can spark a proletarian revolution. In a medieval setting, shepherd Hans Boehm insists the Virgin Mary summoned him to lead an uprising against the entrenched church and landowners. The monk suggests their cause would succeed if Johanna were dressed as the Virgin Mary to rally the people.
