The Oumi Kingdom is raided by the corrupt general Daijo Yuki and his ally Orochimaru, who slay Lord Ogata and his wife. They entrust Ikazuchi-Maru to their soldiers as the fortress falls, and the boy is evacuated by a small boat. As Orochimaru transforms into a giant serpent and sinks the boat, a giant eagle swoops in and saves the young Ikazuchi-Maru.

Years after the raid, Ikazuchi-Maru has trained in ninjutsu and toad magic under the hermit Dojin Hiki. He learns to harness his abilities and gains the skills needed to face the evil pursuing him. The bond with Hiki deepens as he prepares for the road ahead.

A band of ninja sent by Daijo Yuki attacks Ikazuchi-Maru, testing his growing powers.
