After weeks lost in the Amazon rainforest following a tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of all the adults onboard, a group of four children, aged between 1 and 13, was eventually found alive, though severely malnourished. The story of their rescue is remarkable because it showcases both modern search methods and indigenous traditional practices working together. The indigenous communities played a crucial role by performing a ritual involving ayahuasca, a powerful psychedelic, which seemed to rekindle hope and renewed effort among the searchers. This renewed effort bore fruit when the children were finally located by the indigenous group, lead by Leslie, the oldest of the children, who had heroically taken on the role of protector and provider during their ordeal, foraging and fishing to survive.

Once rescued, the children were placed in the care of the Colombian government, where they began the slow process of recovery. Their disappearance was partly driven by their fear of their abusive father, who had inflicted harm on their mother, which added complexity to their story. The documentary reveals a powerful tale of resilience, survival against the odds, and the importance of collaboration across different cultures and methods in overcoming adversity. In the end, their survival not only highlights the human spirit’s resilience but also underscores the potential for hope and healing after unimaginable hardship.
