In the Kerepesi Street cemetery three grave diggers muse on the world’s fate, then abandon their shovels to assume archetypal roles of contemporary Hungarian society—fat cat, swashbuckler, victim, underworld boss. Through a series of absurd vignettes they enact love, marriage, friendship, public order and legal safety, while author Gyula Hernádi and director Miklós Jancsó observe and comment, underscoring the inevitability of death and their friendly rapport with it.
