Pavlaras and Petrakis, having spent the money Kaiti’s father gave them two years earlier, continue roaming Athens with their lantern. When Pavlaras falls ill and must rest on his doctor’s orders, Petrakis scrapes together contributions from friends, but the sum is insufficient, leading him to secretly sell the lantern without Pavlaras’s knowledge.
