In present-day New York City, we meet Evelyn 'Evie' Jackson, a struggling artist trying to make a living by freelancing for a catering company. The recent death of her mother leads her to take a DNA test that uncovers a distant cousin in England, prompting a life-changing journey.

Evie travels to England to meet her cousin Oliver Alexander, who shares a scandalous tale about her great-grandmother Emmaline. This shocking revelation about a secret child with a black footman rattles Evie's understanding of her family's history.

Evie attends a family wedding in Whitby, where she encounters the imposing New Carfax Abbey. Here, she meets various family members including the lord of the manor, Walter De Ville, and his staff, setting the stage for sinister events.

During her stay at the Abbey, Evie develops a mutual attraction to Walter. However, the tranquil atmosphere is disrupted by mysterious disappearances of housemaids under the watchful eye of Mr. Field.

Evie is startled one night when she encounters a ghostly apparition in her room. The following day, she investigates Walter's office, discovering he had researched her family history prior to her arrival.

At a rehearsal dinner, Evie is blindsided when Walter announces their engagement instead of introductions for the wedding couple. This moment unveils sinister undertones and sets the stage for the impending horror.

A shocking turn occurs when Mr. Field brutally kills a maid and serves her blood to Walter and others, revealing their vampire identities. Walter explains Evie's family's dark history of sacrificial offerings to him.

Evie finds herself trapped in a cellar where she encounters Lucy and Viktoria. Viktoria reveals herself as the apparition from Evie's room and shows her Dee, a maid who has disappeared, heightening the sense of dread.

During the wedding vows, Evie bites De Ville's arm and consumes his blood, which transforms her into a vampire. Harnessing her new powers, she sets fire to the chapel and stabs him in the heart, leading to her escape.

As Evie and Dee attempt to flee, they are ambushed by Viktoria. In a fierce confrontation, Lucy sacrifices herself to protect Evie, leading to the destruction of both Viktoria and Lucy.

Evie confronts Mr. Field in a final showdown. Utilizing her newly acquired strength, she overpowers him and ends his life, avenging the maids and asserting her newfound autonomy.

Two weeks later in London, Evie and her friend Grace are on the hunt for Oliver, who is attempting to flee after orchestrating the chaos. They seek revenge against him for his betrayal and involvement in the deadly events.
