After surviving a plane crash that destroys his hands, celebrated pianist Stephen Orlac undergoes experimental surgery by Dr. Volcheff, who grafts him the hands of a recently executed murderer. The new limbs restore his strength but lack the finesse a virtuoso needs, leaving Orlac haunted by a loss of control and a grim link to the killer.
