In 1940s Southern Rhodesia, city‑born Mary marries farmer Dick Turner and is uprooted from her cosmopolitan life to live on his struggling farm. Isolated and increasingly unstable, she begins a clandestine affair with her black servant Moses. When the relationship is uncovered, Mary orders Moses to leave; he returns and kills her, underscoring the brutality of a merciless colonial setting.
