Abel, a schoolboy, is blamed for a prank by Laura and is withdrawn from school. His mother gets him a job as a lift‑boy, but the lift is magical: pressing a forbidden green button transports Abel, Laura, Jozias Tump and Maria Klaterhoen to Manhattan, where a wealthy woman mistakes Abel for her missing son Johnny. A police helicopter later drags the cabin to the Latin American nation of Perugona, where a new revolutionary leader, impressed by Tump’s rescue, appoints him president. Media attention brings both families together for an even stranger finale.
