The Emperor's poor rule drives conspirators to plot his overthrow. He revels after discovering a legendary Golem, convinced it can guard him and cure his imagined ailments. When he vanishes during a binge, a kind baker who looks identical is mistaken for him and begins to set things right. The plotters then seek to animate the Golem for themselves.
