Donald Duck arrives late to his job at Royal Bros., a bustling toy workshop where deadlines loom and the daily routine often spirals into chaos. He clocks in, palm on the clock face, then uses a magnet to nudge the time back a few minutes and settles into his worktable as a storm of toys roars by, creating a whirlwind that rips his clothes right off his frame.
He scrambles to recover his garments and makes his way to the gift pile. In a flurry of fiddling, he tries to squash a trombone into a tiny box, effectively deforming it with a clamp until it resembles a French horn. In a slip of mislabeling, he stuffs a ring and a rugby ball into the wrong boxes and even deflates the ball, turning a simple task into a miniature fiasco. He attempts to read a book and pretend to work at the same time, a small act of defiance in the face of the relentless pace.
Lunch follows, and he pours coffee into his cup, only for the boss’s loudspeaker horn to sneeze the steaming liquid all over his face, sparking a moment of temper that the boss swiftly cools with a stern reprimand. Donald apologizes, stifling his frustration as he resumes a halfhearted semblance of productivity.
After a stretch of pretending to work and tinkering with a clock for distraction, he spots a box on the line containing perfume and casually sprays it into the speaker pipe. The boss snarls that the scent is Comhither #5, and then delivers the verdict that “Production has increased in every single department” except for the gift-wrapping division. This news hardens the mood, and the line about progress in every other department fuels Donald’s growing ire.
Anger boils over as he begins to play with a rocking chair, wrapping himself inside as a makeshift disguise for a moment of escape. A rush-order box appears, and he darts from the chair to grab the wrapping paper just in time. Then a pair of eyes peek through the lid of a box, and a Jack-in-the-box character pops out, inviting playful mischief. Donald seizes the moment, playing with Jack and even giving him a hug, but the boss’s orders to avoid toy play clash with his mounting irritation.
When Donald tries to continue the task, Jack’s antics complicate matters. He attempts to wrap the box around Jack, who refuses to go back inside, and Donald, hungry for a quiet lunch, finds himself dodging a rapid sequence of toy surprises. The Jack-in-the-box bulges and bursts open, sending Donald sliding across the table through gift boxes until his beak strikes a grain hopper toy that dumps sand onto him.
After freeing himself from the boxed labyrinth, he clamps Jack down with a vise to force him back into the box. Yet the relentless noise of the speaker horn remains a nuisance, so he stuffs a rubber ball into it. The ball blasts out as Donald tries to enjoy a slice of pie, and although he dodges the eager projectiles, one strike from the clamp sends Jack springing out and slamming Donald into his pie piece.
Frustration peaks as he tries to tie down Jack’s head with stakes in the floor, only to see Jack slip free and vanish through the floorboards. He then makes a desperate move to pull Jack’s head out, but instead finds himself pulled into the box, tangled in a wrestling match with the resilient Jack. After a tense struggle, Donald frees himself only to discover Jack has stolen his blue shirt and hat while Donald is dressed in Jack’s accordion-like clown costume.
He laments the chaos until quitting time, but the boss adds one last sting: he must stay and wrap a few more packages. With a final surge of anger, Donald storms upstairs to confront the boss, smashing the speaker pipe in the process and quitting on the spot. The day ends in a whirlwind of shattered tools, flown-out nerves, and a decision to walk away from the relentless cycle of wrapping and deadlines.
