Lane stepped in as the possessed person when their scheduled actor failed to show up. Unlike their previous staged possessions, this time a genuine demon, later identified as Aamon, actually possessed her. The movie never fully explains why this particular exorcism summoned a real entity, though the timing coincided with Max and Drew's increasingly reckless escalation of their fake rituals.

During the livestream, the demon Aamon compelled both Max and Drew to confess their darkest secrets as part of its psychological torture. This served two purposes: it deepened the horror by exposing their personal lies and traumas, and it drove higher viewer engagement, the demon was ultimately using the stream itself as a conduit for something far larger.

Aamon is the specific demon that possesses Lane during the livestream. Initially thought to be the main threat, Aamon later reveals it was merely a servant. The true mastermind was Lucifer himself, who used Aamon as a decoy while orchestrating the mass possession through the livestream to infect millions of viewers worldwide.
