A fantasy film adapted from a screenplay by French existentialist Jean‑Paul Sartre, it follows a society heiress and a resistance fighter who are killed at the same instant. In the afterlife they meet and are given a single test: if they can prove their love is true they may return to the living world, but failure condemns them to wander the earth as restless ghosts.
