A middle‑aged married woman battling depression is urged by her husband to get a dog, but she instead takes a job. The way the female staff are treated throws her into a comic fantasy where gender roles are flipped: bearded men sit at typewriters, fretting over their appearance and dinner plans. She joins a strike, loses the job, yet gains friends and a brighter outlook on life.
