Surf's Up

Cody Maverick is introduced as the sole surfer in the fishing village of Shiverpool, located in Antarctica. He faces derision from his peers, particularly his older brother Glen, who continually undermines his surfing ambitions.

Cody's mother, Edna, is depicted as indifferent to his dreams of surfing. She is often too preoccupied with her own interests to provide him with the support he desperately craves.

Cody's passion for surfing sparked during a visit from the legendary surfer Big Z. Big Z gifted Cody a unique shell necklace, igniting in him the desire to emulate the extraordinary skills of his idol.

A significant event occurs when Mikey, a surfer scout, arrives via a whale to scout for new talent in Shiverpool. Cody's attempt to showcase his surfing abilities disappoints Mikey due to the lack of waves, resulting in Mikey's frustration.

Determined to prove his skills, Cody chases after the whale carrying Mikey. He teams up with Joe, a chicken on a surfing expedition, and they quickly become friends during their pursuit.

Cody and Joe reach Pengu Island just in time for the 10th Annual Big Z Memorial Surfing Competition. They discover an exciting local culture and meet legendary surfers including Rob Machado and Kelly Slater.

Cody’s affections grow for Lani, a charming lifeguard who saves a young penguin named Arnold from drowning. Encouraged by Joe, Cody musters the courage to approach Lani to deepen their connection.

While exploring, Cody and Joe come across a shrine dedicated to Big Z, complete with his surfboard resting against a rock. This poignant tribute recalls the legend of Big Z vanishing during a fierce surfing competition.

The tranquility is disrupted by Tank 'The Shredder' Evans, who aggressively damages Big Z's surfboard. Cody intervenes, leading to a heated argument that captures the attention of competition promoter Reggie Belafonte.
