John L. Sullivan, a successful director, decides he must experience hardship before filming his masterpiece. He disguises himself as a hobo and sets out to “know trouble,” but instead hops on a train back to Hollywood with a striking blonde companion. His quest backfires when he loses his memory and ends up imprisoned on a chain‑gang.
