Leah Kaplan and her NSC team lift off from Jacksonville on a routine mission to track Hurricane Josephine. On board are Tommy Cramer, Steve Pastor, and reporter Ryan Stewart. They intend to gather data on the storm as it forms over the Atlantic.

Leah reports to Eli Harder and learns that NSC Director James McCaffee has ordered a full-scale evacuation of Corpus Christi as Ike approaches. The decision underscores the pressure on the team to deliver actionable data under a looming disaster.

As Flight 263 reaches the hurricane's outer wall at about 1,500 feet, winds and turbulence spike and the dropsondes show the hurricane is intensifying. Leah relays this to NSC, but the data prompts concern about the timeliness of decisions back at headquarters.

The crew emerges from the wreckage with relief that everyone survived and loved ones on the ground are safe. The mission ends with a sense of relief, shadowed by the loss of Steve and the ongoing weather threat.
