Set against the sprawling steel mills of Terni in Umbria, longtime friends Mario and Pietro both court Gina. After Pietro is killed in a factory accident, the workforce blames Mario for his death. Though innocent and forced to leave his job, Mario’s devotion to his work and his love for Gina ultimately help him overcome the ordeal.
