Abelard, a philosophy teacher at Notre Dame, falls in love with his brilliant 16‑year‑old student Héloïse d’Argenteuil, a convent‑raised rebel against medieval gender constraints. Their secret marriage and Héloïse’s pregnancy prompt her uncle Fulbert and the Bishop of Paris to intervene, forcing Abelard to wrestle with his devotion to God and his love for Héloïse.
